Bruce Thomas Hatley

January 3, 1926 - February 25, 2025

Bruce was born in Central Butte, SK and raised on a nearby family farm.  He enlisted with the RCAF from 1943-1946. He married Shirley Halladay in 1947. They raised four children and lived in four provinces during his RCAF career from 1955-1975. He was an instructor at SK Technical Institute in Moose Jaw from 1976-1987. He was the recipient of the Royal Canadian Legion 50th Year of Service Award.

Bruce and Shirl made the best of life — hosting parties and stay overs for family and lifetime friends, enjoying a new house, garden, cottage and southern winters. Widowed in 2006, Bruce continued to socialize, relished family time, delighted in travel and the Jays. A do-it-yourselfer, he crafted two beautiful recreational trailers, made household equipment, repaired used cars and loved his new ones. He had a lifelong sense of duty and family; to the end, mustering the strength to reconnect, laugh and say, “I love you, dear”.

Lovingly remembered by his daughters Connie (Gord) Gault and Joanne (Stan) Lyons, his son Chris Hatley (Lindy Cowan), eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife Shirley Jean Hatley (née Halladay), son Dan Hatley, Herbert and Mabel Hatley (née Cooper; subsequently married to Edward Gregory), sisters Beatrice Leslie and Laura Evans, and brothers Jim and Austen Hatley.
