Work at the Buffalo Pound Water has prompted the activation of Regina's emergency backup water wells.

REGINA - The City of Regina has posted on its website that residents may find their water has taken on some colour, an indication that the city's water wells are pumping again.

Due to restricted water supply from Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant, the City of Regina has turned on its emergency backup water wells to help supplement water supply, says the city's website.

Some residents might see a yellow/brown tinge to the drinking water due to the emergency backup water wells however the water remains safe to drink, says the city.

Recently, the city implemented voluntary water restrictions due to critical upgrades underway at the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant. Those were lifted June 2.

The city says it will continue to monitor the upgrades at the BPWTP and implement future measures, including the use of our emergency water wells. While voluntary water restrictions are no longer needed, residents are encouraged to continue practicing water conservation habits. Work at the BPWTP is expected to be completed in 2026.
