ESTEVAN — The rain that has been has caused a couple of events to be cancelled in Estevan.

The first is the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League's U18 AAA Selects tournament, one of the top baseball competitions in the province. The tournament, which would have brought the league's 14 teams to Lynn Prime Park in Estevan, was scheduled to begin early on May 16 and continue until the evening of May 18.

Estevan has already been awarded the tournament for 2026 to make up for this year's loss.

Also, the Estevan Motor Speedway has announced that its regular program, scheduled for May 17, has been rained out.

"Due to the large amount of rainfall, and impending forecast, we regrettably are cancelling tomorrow night’s race," the speedway said in a Facebook post on May 16.

The next racing action will be a first responder’s night on May 31 at 7 p.m. All classes will race.

The precipitation has also forced the cancellation or postponement of numerous games in local baseball, softball and soccer leagues, along with other activities and events.

A rainfall warning was still in effect for much of the southeast, including the Estevan, Weyburn, Carlyle and Moosomin areas, as of the morning of May 16. The advisory had been in place since the afternoon of May 14.
