WEYBURN – The Weyburn Soccer Association (WSA) is gearing up to host a community soccer fest on May 24, at Jubilee Park. It’s a one-day event bringing together players from Weyburn and surrounding rural communities for a full day of friendly competition and family fun.

The festival kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, with games scheduled throughout the day, wrapping up the match at 4:30 p.m.

According to Tyler Hillstead, WSA’s technical director, the event is designed to offer players more time on the field while creating a festival atmosphere for families and fans.

“Maybe some families can come down Saturday and watch, make it a festival. It’s something fun," he said. "It’s for the community.

“Usually our season is so short, only eight weeks a season, and we get a couple rain days, and so then sometimes you get a shortage of games, and everybody likes playing games. So I just thought, you know what wouldn’t it be nice to have a one day festival everyone plays two or three games.”

Soccer season in Weyburn began in early May and will run through to the end of June. Despite the tight timeframe, WSA manages to pack 16 sessions during the eight-week season.

WSA has seen strong participation in 2025, with approximately 480 kids registered in its youth programs.
